THE never ending drama has continued at City of Lusaka with the latest being developer Diego Casilli pulling out his sponsorship at the club.
Casille who is a developer and chief executive officer for Forli Investments gave a face lift to the club by refurbishing the stadium and injecting money into the club.
After the continued wrangles at the club with the latest installment, Casilli has had enough and decided to step down.
Casilli’s consultant Simataa Simataa confirmed the development in an interview yesterday that Casilli will no longer sponsor the club.
Simataa said Casilli has stepped down due to the continuous harassment and attacks by the community and the executive.
He added that Casilli has also withdrawn because the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) had positioned themselves on the matter.
“Casilli is not happy with the position FAZ has taken by supporting the executive and also the continued harassment from the community,” Simataa said.
Last week, FAZ General Secretary Ponga Liwewe said they don’t recongnise the City of Lusaka PLC 2000 but would work with the executive .
And board of trustees’ chairperson Christine Mulundika confirmed in a separate interview that Casilli had withdrawn sponsorship.
“It happened yesterday (Tuesday) Casilli said he has withdrawn his sponsorship but we are hoping we can get him back on board,” Mulundika said.
Mulundika said Casilli was not happy because the executive was not following what he wants as the major shareholder of City.
“The people of the community are a problem. They can’t see that this development is good and beneficial to the club,” he said.
