THE Government has urged investors to set up plants that will be manufacturing products locally and cautioned the business community to protect the market from distortion by providing genuine products.
The Government has observed various fake products that have offloaded the market.
Transport and Communication Permanent Secretary, Misheck Lungu, said that fake products such as handset devices had distorted the market.
“I would like to urge the business community to protect the market and bring devices that will protect the market. Bring in genuine handsets that will not cause health hazards to people,” he said.
He was speaking during the official launch of the new Infinix Zero 5 smartphone in Lusaka on Monday.
Mr Lungu urged mobile dealers to provide affordable handsets and not to exploit customers.
He said that the Government would soon revise the Cyber Security Act to ensure data was protected.
“Government remains focused to ensure the Zambian society remains a knowledge-based society. I would like to assure you that Government will protect your businesses and your data,” he said.
Speaking at the same event,  Infinix Mobile country managing director, Jason Tang, said the company had specific dealers in the market to ensure that the products were not pirated.
Mr Tang also said the response from customers in the Zambian market to the Infinix smartphones had so far been overwhelming.
“A lot of people do not know about this brand, but once they know it very well, they do not regret but the response has been overwhelming so far because it is coming on board as the best smartphone,” Mr Tang said.
“The new smartphone has a soft flash meaning it is able to capture objects even in the dark, the light will suit the environment from where you are capturing,” he said.
