A TWENTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD man of Kawambwa District has committed suicide after his parents disapproved his choice of a wife.
Luapula Province Police Commissioner Hudson Namachila said in an interview that Timothy Mbayi of Chifumbi Village in Chief Mukanta’s area committed suicide after his parents stopped him from marrying the love of his life.
Mr Namachila said the man had introduced a woman he wanted to marry to his parents who refused to approve her because they believed that the girl was not good for him.
He said the man threatened to kill himself with hopes that the parents would agree to let him marry the girl he wanted.
Mr Namachila said he later got a rope and went into the bush to hang himself on a tree.
“The man went missing from home at the weekend around 10:00 hours after his plans to convince his parents on marriage failed,” he said.
Mr Namachila said an eye witness who saw him going into the bush reported the matter to the police who visited the crime scene and found him hanging from a tree.
He said no foul play was suspected and the family was advised to bury the body.
