ZDA, LuSE seal capital pact

The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at improving access to long-term capital and supporting private-sector growth. The partnership will promote investment, encourage more companies to list on LuSE and help growth-oriented small and medium-sized businesses prepare for listing.

The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to reshape the way capital is mobilised, strengthen business growth and drive private-sector-led development in Zambia.

ZDA director general Albert Halwampa said the agreement covered the agency’s three broad mandates of investment promotion, trade promotion and business development.

Mr Halwampa said under the MoU, the two institutions would promote domestic and foreign investment, increase awareness of capital market opportunities and support more listings in high-impact sectors.

“The partnership will encourage Zambian companies to consider LuSE as a reliable, transparent and regulated avenue for raising long-term capital. It also envisages deliberate efforts to support listings in high-impact sectors and collaboration on Green Bonds under LuSE’s Green Bond Listing Framework,” he said.

He said ZDA would help identify growth-oriented local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that may be ready to list on LuSE’s Alternative Market in the short, medium or long term.

The initiative, he said, would help Zambian enterprises become investment-ready, connect viable projects and companies to appropriate sources of capital, and broaden citizen participation in Zambia’s economic growth.

Mr Halwampa said the MoU was not just about paperwork, but about creating a structured and efficient process for attracting investment and a cooperative framework that would deliver tangible results.

He said the collaboration would also leverage regional and international networks to address trade facilitation constraints and expand commerce.
