COPPERBELT University lecturers have continued their strike despite Education and Higher Learning Minister Michael Kaingu directing them to resume work.
The lecturers have been protesting against alleged mismanagement of the institution by Vice-Chancellor Naison Ngoma and the entire management.
The CBU Academics Union (CBUAU) members were demanding the removal of the entire management.
Professor Ngoma had since resumed work after he was reinstated and cleared of allegations of mismanagement.
Prof Ngoma was until Tuesday on an indefinite leave following an impasse that had rocked CBU beginning July this year, when lecturers passed a vote of no confidence in him and his top management.
A check yesterday found the lecturers’ strike action had continued, while Prof Ngoma was operating from his office, but did not issue any comment on the happenings at the university.
On the other hand, the lecturers through the CBUAU leadership said they would not get back to work until Government addressed their concerns.
CBUAU president Mwiya Songolo said during a press briefing yesterday that the lecturers were not intimidated by Dr Kaingu’s threats of dismissal.
“The moment Dr Kaingu decides to give us discharge letters, he should also be ready to pay each one of us our terminal benefits,” Mr Songolo said.
Dr Kaingu on Tuesday gave the lecturers up to Friday, this week to call off the work stoppage and resume work or risk losing their jobs as well as terminal benefits.
