THE European Union (EU) has given Zambia more than K400 million to accelerate progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) this ear.
EU Head of delegation to Zambia and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Gilles Hervio said the support was targeted at reducing maternal and child mortality.
Mr Hervio said in a statement at the weekend that the funds would go towards enhancing the fight against maternal and child mortality in Lusaka and the Copperbelt province.
“The EU has committed 1 billion Euros in funding to accelerate progress towards the most off-track MDG’s in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries.
“Mr Hervio, who handed over equipment to the ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health (MCDMCH) under the EU’s MDG initiative, said under the programme organisation will aid Government with the refurbishment of more than 50 health facilities.
