FOREST Rangers coach Willie Nkonde says he is unfazed with the competition in the FAZ Division One League as his target is to qualify his side to the Premier League at the end of the season.
Nkonde said in an interview recently that his target is to guide the league leaders back to the Premier League next season.
The Ndola side lead the log with 53 points from 28 games played to enjoy a two-point lead over second placed ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers with just six matches remaining before the 2014 season wraps up.
Nkonde is, however, unmoved by the stiff competition in the northern league that has seen leadership exchange hands among the top flight teams that also include Chambishi and Kalulushi Modern Stars.
He said that the race for promotion in the league was tough but that his charges are mentally strong to deliver positive results under any form of pressure.
“The team is focused on winning promotion and I am very happy that everyone knows what is expected of them. The league here is not easy and any of the top five teams can go all the way to win promotion.
We know how important the remaining games are and every point counts, so we will ensure that we maintain the winning formula,” Nkonde said.
He said Forest belong to the super division and urged his charges to work hard in ensuring that the team plays top flight football next season.
Forest on Sunday beat Kitwe United 1-0 to remain at the summit for a third week running with defender Diego Apanene powering in the lone goal.
Meanwhile, Wanderers coach Manfred Chabinga said in a separate interview that there was no room for error as his side looks forward to clinching a Premier League spot after a long time of absence.
Chabinga said the fight for promotion in the north league had intensified and that his team eyeing maximum points.
“The race is tough but I think we will give in our best for the remaining and my boys are fully charged to face the hurdle. Promotion is our ultimate target and we will not give it away,” he said.
Wanderers are second on 51 points with Chambishi and Kalulushi Modern Stars in third and fourth on 50 and 49 points respectively.
