ZAMBIAN women entrepreneurs have been challenged to grow their businesses into multinational companies if economic growth is to be stimulated.
Bank of Zambia (BoZ) deputy administration governor Tukiya Kankasa – Mabula said there was need for small and medium businesses to strengthen their business to enable them grow into conglomerates.
Dr Kankasa-Mabula said it was important for women to use their expertise in mentorship and couching programmes to promote and support  career development of young  people in Zambia.
“As part of Zambia’s golden jubilee, we are celebrating the contribution of Zambian women towards  freedom struggle without which we could not be enjoying our independence,” Dr Kankasa-Mabula
said.
Speaking during the Standard Chartered Bank Zambia international women’s day dinner in Lusaka yesterday, Dr Kankasa-Mabula said it was
important to celebrate the increasing contribution of women to economic development and their diverse careers that they have pursued.
“Our prominent status in society places us on a great responsibility to the agent of change, while some of the changes that we are called upon to inspire, may vary across  sectors we work,” Dr Mabula-Kankasa said.
To enable women  facilitate these changes it is important to look back into the past to learn from what other women did 50 years ago to inspire change in spite of the limited opportunities that they had.
Dr Mabula-Kankasa said although, the forms of careers, trade skills and terminologies may have evolved with time to include the diverse careers, there was need to foster a reading culture, networking and community engagement.
